Tibetan village visit

Friday 10th May 2013 – today was another recovery/rest day for us at Base Camp whilst we wait for the ropes to be fixed to the summit of Everest and for a suitable weather window.

Today, after lunch we took a wander down to the local temporary Tibetan village which is about an hour’s walk downhill from Base Camp.

This tented village sells a range of tourist trinkets and has a few tea houses and a pool table.

I went to “China Post” in the village with the intent of sending the odd postcard back to the UK but they didn’t sell any stamps!

The Lhasa Beer, billed as “Beer from the roof of the World”, is readily on sale in the Tea Rooms and this afternoon we have enjoyed relaxing with this refreshment. It is a nice change from life at Base Camp and there is so much oxygen down here at 5,090m relatively.

I hope that you all enjoy your weekend. Keep following the adventure.

I could do with some of that oxygen my friend as i continue to fight this illness inside me. It’s 10 weeks since the Fire & Ice Masquerade Ball since we last chatted – how time flies!! You’re very near the top of the world on Chomolungma and I’ve lost over 2 stone to some virus! Reading ‘The Boardman Tasker Omnibus’ again and keep thinking of you and all your experiences over in Tibet. Stay fit and healthy … enjoy the whole experience … JR
